IN PICTURES:
3 DAYS OF DESIGN
DESIGN
Larger and livelier than ever before, but also more widespread and harder to manoeuvre; we asked our photographer Martin Bruzewitz to cover the 2024 edition of 3 days of design in Copenhagen on a bike. Erwan Bouroullec posed seated in a car parking lot, while Faye Toogood hosted a dinner focusing on colours.
Wednesday
18:42 Work Shop Willo Perron
A few Sausage sofas designed by super creative Willo Perron are dressed in Our Legacy Work Shop fabrics for the Copenhagen occasion. Guests make themselves comfortable in the easily adapted and very photogenic sausage sofas, last showcased at Capsule Plaza in Milan.
Wednesday
20:24 Frama
Faye Toogood and Frama founder Niels Stroyer Christensen welcome guests to their dinner and installation Collage. A match making made in heaven, it’s one of these collabs that feels truly genuine, fusing Toogoods visual universe with Framas holistic aesthetic and general tribe vibe. Apothecary, tote bags and other limited edition items launch during the dinner, which features colour matched food and an enormous bread cake.
Thursday
10:27 Fredericia
Jasper Morrison is a reluctant poser next to his Jota Lounge Chair in the Fredericia showroom. It’s the preview of his slightly unexpected upholstery collection for the Danish brand. Members of the staff join forces to carry the new sofa out for public display.
Thursday
12:12 TAKT
Sam Hecht and Kim Colin from Industrial Facility pose with their latest chair for Danish TAKT, founded by Henrik Taudorf Lorensen. Bow Chair has a molded back and arms from one single piece of plywood and is the second seating by Industrial Facility for the brand. Sam Hecht throws the lightweight chair over his shoulder.
Thursday
13:09 Vibia
Stefan Diez flight was cancelled and he missed the press dinner the night before. Now he is posing with his Plusminus, a hugely adaptable light series first launched for Vibia a few years ago. The Vibia installation at Note design studio features furniture made of recycled furniture foam, which is covered by a waste latex coating, and colour matched with Diez lighting.
Thursday
14:51 Niko June
Nick Ross enjoys a breakfast at the messy dining table installation of Niko June, featuring spilled tea, marmalade toasts and eye catching red cups, as well as his Banquet Chair. An antidote to standard design festival launches, Niko June attracts the fashion and fanfare crowd and opened with an influencer breakfast hosted by Freya Wewer.
Thursday
15:45 Koyori
Michael Anastassiades is getting ready to present his first collaboration with the Japanese brand Koyori, the Makuri lounge chair and ottoman. The presentation is set in a poetic installation by Gam Fratesi featuring 650 Japanese lanterns as room dividers, which will travel to a Koyori installation in Japan directly after Copenhagen. Koyori has become one of these brands “most designers want to work with” with its premium craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Thursday
16:49 Hem
The Hem installation is a haven for hangout and Swedish designers lounge in pink doughnuts designed by Sabine Mercalis. Fabien Capello is setting up a show at Villa Noailles in France, and is in Copenhagen on a speed visit. His bright yellow shirt is matching the bold backdrop at Hem as well as his “bestseller to be” lamp series Toto perfectly. The lamp started its life in Capellos Mexico studio, where it quickly caught the spot on eye of Hem founder Petrus Palmér.
Thursday
17:13 Raawii
Erwan Bouroullec poses with his new chair Arba on a parking lot outside Etage Gallery, where Raawii showcase the installation Happy Sobriety. Rumoured to be “the best chair to launch during 3 days” the Bouroullec lounge chair is a serious piece of industrial design, made for the work-from-home generation, with the ability to bend and rotate as a task chair. Arba underlines the fact that independents have more fun. Not many holding companies would see an industrial look lounge chair as a natural step for a joyful accessory brand.
Friday
14:29 Källemo
The Swedish brand Källemo is one of Swedens best kept design secrets, with a real treasure trove archive. Karin Lundh is the daughter of the founder Sven Lundh, and the guardian of the Källemo artistic integrity past and present. For the Copenhagen showcase Lundh and her son Adam Kubar have dressed one of their most iconic chair models in purple Sacho textile and pink legs. The sun is shining and Kubar and Carl-Fredrik Larsson from Nordiska Galleriet Archives carries the purple icon out on the pavement.
Friday
14:56 Massproductions
It’s the day after the big party and Massproduction founders Chris Martin and Magnus Elebeck are a bit tired. Chris Martin has a sit down in his newly designed chair Woodwerk, which has a twisted detail that makes it stand out in a crowd. Their TV Tower celebrating the VHS-era takes centre stage.
